The Owl House is a wild and thrilling adventure from beginning to end, with its third season acting as a beautifully cinematic ending to one of the best cartoons of the 21st century.

The Owl House has had a bittersweet journey since its first episode in January 2020. Its first season introduced the Boiling Isles and the dozens of supporting characters residing in and out of the Demon Realm. It also provided viewers with plenty of life lessons to learn from, making it the most rewatchable season of the series. With season two, however, Disney forced the show to move faster than expected due to a lack of a lengthy third season. Regardless, the story-centered second season improved the show’s quality and representation. Moving into the third season, the Owl House only had three 22-minute episodes to finish the series, which Disney extended to three 44-minute episodes.

The result was a breathtaking final adventure, often including gripping life lessons mixed with highly stylized action. The Owl House’s third season starts with part one, setting up each character’s goals and motivations before returning to the Boiling Isles. Part two featured the obstacles standing in front of Luz and her squad before tackling them head-on in part three. Part two also stands as a chance for numerous characters to overcome their inner struggles. Because they overcame their struggles, part three focuses on defeating Emperor Belos once and for all. However, Luz had to sacrifice more than expected, giving the finale an emotional climax. After a larger-than-life battle between Luz and Belos, the Boling Isle’s people begin rebuilding their homes. Part three’s epilogue establishes not just the end of the story but the end of Luz’s teenage years. The characters move onto bigger and brighter paths while thanking us for partaking in their journey, causing the most emotional moment of the series for long-time fans.

The Owl House means so much to me. After finishing its third season, I realized why: it ignited my passion for filmmaking. I wouldn’t be who I am today if I never took a chance on the series in 2020. I would’ve never arrived at what I am doing now: writing reviews for film productions. I love The Owl House and can’t stop raving about it to anyone I speak to. Many will never understand the show’s impact on my and many others’ lives due to its story, lessons, and characters. However, it will stand the test of time as one of the best cartoons of the 21st century, regardless of what Disney did to make it that way.
